Anonymous asked: my favourites are the first two, the last one 'autumn' and the lady on the parapet. you are extremely talented. would love to see more of your paintings. are these all done in oils?

Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for your nice comment, ‘Autumn’ and the lady at the parapet both are done in oil. Few others here (Village Scene and Couple) are done in water color and so the so called ‘wash treatment’. I hope to put up some more of my work soon.

COUPLE
This water colour is based on Khayyam philosophy employing the wash technique. Seen here are a couple under a tree, content in each other’s company. The wash technique helps to convey a surrealistic environment, far away from the harsh realities of life. Colours used are shades of pink, burnt sienna and magenta.

VILLAGE SCENE
This is a water colour done employing the so called “Wash” method. Hand made paper was selected to give natural look with textures and to avoid any glossy effect. The painting depicts simple life of Rajasthani folk. Drinking water is a major problem, so they are bringing water in vessels on their heads. Trees are mostly dry with not many green leaves.

ON THE ROOF ONE LATE AFTERNOON
An oil painting in palate knife. Mostly dark colours are used such as Prussian blue, Viridian green, black and deep brown. A woman is seen standing at the parapet on her terrace one late afternoon. With the sun set, the sky behind looks a shade of clear blue as depicted. The expression on her face reflects the woman’s morose, depressed mood, as if she  does not even have the energy to remove the sun dried clothes hanging on the line behind her.
This is a reproduction of Vikash Bhattachariya’s painting as this painting really touched my heart. Wanted to make a tribute to him as a kind of a close, personal reflection.

WOMAN AT WORK
This scene depicts a woman at her domestic duties, she is probably out in the courtyard, on the hard packed earth going about her daily chores. Typical as per clothing worn by Rajasthani folk, bright colours are used. Another woman is vaguely visible at the rear.

AUTUMN (IN OIL)
This shows a fall scene done some years back in oil. Consistent with the colours of autumn, there is a high use of Vermilion red and Burnt sienna along with yellow.
